Global Rhythms: Reem Kelani

Great Hall; enter on Eighth Avenue. $5-$20.

Global Rhythms, Music

Palestinian singer, musician, and broadcaster Reem Kelani has a way of bringing people together: Lately she has been working with accomplished British jazz musicians, introducing them to and training them in Arabic music, and the lineup on her international tours includes musicians from Syria, Egypt, Iran, Turkey, and Portugal. It’s no wonder, then, that her profile—in the Arab and non-Arab world—continues to grow, and it’s all the more to her credit that she’s an unsigned artist who has preserved her independence—musically, spiritually, and politically. After her acclaimed British Council tour in Syria in 2007, Kelani’s “Anglo-Syrian” band performed at the Jableh Festival in Lattakia and in southeast Turkey in 2009, at the Asian Games in Guangzhou in November 2010, and at World Music Shanghai in May 2011. You will not want to miss her in Seattle. Presented by Town Hall as part of its Global Rhythms series. Series media sponsorship provided by KBCS 91.3 FM and KEXP.
Advance tickets are $18/$17 seniors/$15 Town Hall members/$10 students with ID, at or 888/377-4510; $20/$18/$17 at the door beginning at 7 pm; $5 rush for students with ID 15 minutes before showtime. Town Hall members receive priority seating. Great Hall; enter on Eighth Avenue.
